PRO GRADU PROJECT ON ISOLATION AND CHARACTERISATION
OF OVARIAN CANCER DERIVED EXOSOMES

Pro gradu student position is available in the Translational Cancer
Research group at the Department of Pathology and Forensic Sciences
(http://www.carpenlab.utu.fi). Our laboratory studies ovarian cancer,
with the aim of improving diagnostics and treatment. We have gathered
an exceptional collection of patient derived primary cancer cell lines and
other clinical samples, which allow cutting edge translational research
(www.project-hercules.eu).

The Academy of Finland funded EXOCA-project focuses on understanding
the functional role of exosomes, small extracellular vesicles (EVs), in
ovarian cancer. Recent studies implicate exosomes as important factors in
the intercellular communication between tumor and stromal cells, which
is critical for the establishment of tumor favoring environment. This Pro
Gradu -project will involve several molecular biology techniques,
including size-exclusion chromatography and/or ultracentrifugation based
isolation of EVs from biological fluids, imaging with transmission electron
microscopy (TEM) and EV characterization with western blotting, ELISA
assays and Taqman qRT-PCR.

We are looking for highly motivated candidates with a suitable
background in the field of biomedicine, molecular biology or
biochemistry. The student will have an opportunity to work in a
productive, interactive and international environment in Medicity.
Previous hands-on experience in basic molecular biology techniques is an
advantage.
