<div>PRO GRADU PROJECT ON ISOLATION AND CHARACTERISATION</div>
<div>OF OVARIAN CANCER DERIVED EXOSOMES</div>

<div>Pro gradu student position is available in the Translational Cancer</div>
<div>Research group at the Department of Pathology and Forensic Sciences</div>
<div>(http://www.carpenlab.utu.fi). Our laboratory studies ovarian cancer,</div>
<div>with the aim of improving diagnostics and treatment. We have gathered</div>
<div>an exceptional collection of patient derived primary cancer cell lines and</div>
<div>other clinical samples, which allow cutting edge translational research</div>
<div>(www.project-hercules.eu).</div>

<div>The Academy of Finland funded EXOCA-project focuses on understanding</div>
<div>the functional role of exosomes, small extracellular vesicles (EVs), in</div>
<div>ovarian cancer. Recent studies implicate exosomes as important factors in</div>
<div>the intercellular communication between tumor and stromal cells, which</div>
<div>is critical for the establishment of tumor favoring environment. This Pro</div>
<div>Gradu -project will involve several molecular biology techniques,</div>
<div>including size-exclusion chromatography and/or ultracentrifugation based</div>
<div>isolation of EVs from biological fluids, imaging with transmission electron</div>
<div>microscopy (TEM) and EV characterization with western blotting, ELISA</div>
<div>assays and Taqman qRT-PCR.</div>

<div>We are looking for highly motivated candidates with a suitable</div>
<div>background in the field of biomedicine, molecular biology or</div>
<div>biochemistry. The student will have an opportunity to work in a</div>
<div>productive, interactive and international environment in Medicity.</div>
<div>Previous hands-on experience in basic molecular biology techniques is an</div>
<div>advantage.</div>
