Are you interested in industrial biotechnology? Are you planning on writing your Master’s Thesis in Engineering or Arts? VTT is now looking for a Master’s Thesis Writer to their plant biotechnology and metabolomics team. 


VTT is going to transform the way food is seen by developing an entire new concept of producing food at home by anyone in any urban setting. We will bring alive plants and berries that you just cannot get anywhere. As a Master’s Thesis writer you will participate in future scenario development and context related product development of home appliance. The final work is expected to illustrate a future scenario for the food concept including all relevant stakeholders and future trends in society and to present a fully designed home appliance for the food concept and a functional prototype. The trainee is expected to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team and take independent responsibility for User research, scenario planning, conceptualization, product design and prototyping.


This project is a paid Master’s Thesis commission.


The work is mainly based on: 

• Design-thinking approach

• User research (e.g. questionnaires, design research methods)

• Co-creation with the user (an already existing digital open innovation platform will be involved) 

• Product design

• 3D CAD design

• Prototyping

• Trend research 

• Scenario planning

• Illustrating

• Interdisciplinary teamwork with the scientific team, who are involved in the actual engineering.  


We look for:

• A background in product development, preferably experienced in user centred design / service design and 3D CAD design

• Openness for radical innovation 

• Ability to catch the essence of the complexity and translate tacit aspects into tangible outcomes

• Further experience in interdisciplinary teamwork

• Creativity, enthusiasm and skills for creative problem solving

• Profound knowledge in a 3D-modelling program, e.g. Rhino or SolidWorks or Creo/ProEngineer

• Skills in visualisation programs, e.g. Adobe InDesign and Photoshop

• Skills in Microsoft office


We appreciate:

• Experience in electronics, home appliances and consumer product design, food technology
