Job description
The Faculty of Arts of the University of Groningen wishes to appoint a
lecturer/assistant professor (1,0 fte tenure track) in the chair-group of Early
Modern History. We are looking for an enthusiastic and flexible colleague with a
specialization in the social and economic history of the early modern period.
The chair-group of Early Modern History is, along with other chair groups,
responsible for the Bachelor and Master programmes in History and for the
Research Master Classical, Medieval and Renaissance Studies (CMRS). The
chair-group is attached to the Institute for Humanities Research Groningen
(ICOG) and participates in other national and international research
institutions.
The position includes the following tasks:
- teaching at BA and MA level in the field of Early Modern History for the full-
and part-time programmes in History and for related programmes
- supervising dissertations at BA, MA and PhD level
- conducting research and publishing nationally and internationally in
peer-reviewed academic publications
- (co-) initiating and conducting research projects (particularly in the
chair-group's existing research fields of social and economic history)
- playing an active role in the organization and management of research and
teaching.
Requirements
- completed PhD in History
- (inter) national research experience and record of peer-reviewed academic
publications
- familiarity with the historiography and methodology of social and economic
history (including a thorough knowledge of databases)
- excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- ability to teach through English (and, for international applicants,
willingness to learn Dutch)
- ability to work in and with a team.
Conditions of employment
The University of Groningen offers a salary dependent on qualifications and work
experience with a minimum of € 3,195 (salary scale 11) to a maximum of €
4,970 (salary scale 12) gross per month for a full-time position, an 8% holiday
allowance per annum and an end of the year bonus of 8,3% and participation in a
pension scheme for employees. The appointment will be initially for a period of
two years, with the prospect of appointment for an indefinite period. This will
be determined based on an appraisal, which will be made after two years.
