Valahian Journal of Historical Studies no. 16 (2011)

“Bilateral relations between distant countries”

The drive towards modernization, the birth of modern states, the
diplomacy, the communication revolution, the advance of knowledge,
the modern tourism have all encouraged to a various degree the
encounters between distant countries and peoples to the extent that
diplomatic relations between them have started, economic and
ideological exchanges have progressed and the mutual knowledge has
increased. Regardless the increasing number of academic works dealing
with bilateral relations between such countries, there is very little
research on the methodology concerning this topic to help researches
approaching their study-cases. This issue of Valahian Journal of
Historical Studies starts from this observation and aims by
approaching both theoretically and analytically this topic to
contribute to a better understanding of the stakes involved in
researching bilateral relations. Therefore, VJHS encourages
transdisciplinary contributions assessing topics such as: 
  
•	The literature concerning bilateral relations between distant
countries
•	Defining distant countries/nations: geographically, culturally,
socially etc.
•	The methodology of research concerning bilateral relations between
distant countries
•	The birth of modern states and the setting up of bilateral
relations between distant countries
•	The advance of diplomacy and the setting up of bilateral relations
between distant countries
•	Trade and exchanges between distant countries
•	The communication revolution and the influences on the bilateral
relations between distant countries
•	Modern tourism and its impact on the bilateral relations between
distant countries
•	Modern ideologies and their influences on the bilateral relations
between distant countries
•	Multilateral and bilateral relations between states
•	International organizations their influences on the bilateral
relations between distant countries
