Dear Colleagues,

I am writing to you about extremely concerning developments for our department at Queen’s. This is not only about us, but a much larger crisis for all Arts and Sciences following years of mismanagement. In any case, now it is Classics and Archaeology that is explicitly targeted by the administration, even though, as you will read below, we have always been “in the black”. Their plan is to eliminate all upper year classes of Greek and Latin, which effectively means the end of the department as a functioning research unit.
The message from our Head Daryn Lehoux copied below is very eloquent and you may want to read it. You can find it also on our webpage: https://www.queensu.ca/classics/

I would greatly appreciate if you could voice your support for us, and more generally for the value of Greek and Latin and of Classics and Archaeology in general. Please write to the Principal, Dean, Provost, and student journal (links in the text below and in the text on our website), and cc our Head Daryn Lehoux lehoux at queensu.ca<mailto:lehoux at queensu.ca>

Would you please circulate this message as many people as possible? This is an existential struggle and we need all support we can get.
