Dear Colleagues,

Next Monday, Dr. Blossom Stefaniw from the University of Halle-Wittenberg
will make a presentation about "Narrative, Displacement, and Archival
Grief".
Blossom does fascinating multidisciplinary research mixing literary and
manuscript studies, and also ancient and contemporary ethics and
philosophy. She will give an about 45-50 min lecture and then we'll have an
hour for discussion. You are very welcome to join!

*Guest lecture by Dr. Blossom Stefaniw "Narrative, Displacement, and
Archival Grief"*

This lecture explores problems of ethics and imagination in doing
historical work. It touches on migration, colonialism, and the material
conditions of the archive, and on how we imagine knowledge and which people
and places are legitimate sources of knowledge. Using storytelling to
explore these concepts, space is opened up for approaching ancient texts
and doing history outside of patriarchy and colonialism, for re-conceiving
the archive and expanding our concept of knowledge and our agility with
diverse knowledge practices.

Dr. Blossom Stefaniw currently holds a Heisenberg Fellowship from the
German Research Foundation. From 2011 to 2017 she was Junior Professor for
Ethics in Antiquity and Christianity at the University of Mainz and is now
affiliated with the University of Halle. She is the author of *Mind, Text,
and Commentary: Noetic Exegesis in Origen of Alexandria, Didymus the Blind
and Evagrius Ponticus* (2010) and most recently of *Christian Reading:
language, ethics and the order of things* appearing with University of
California Press spring of 2019. Her primary research interests are ethics,
pedagogy and textual practices, on the one hand, and masculinity,
asceticism, and gender in the late ancient world, on the other.
