Helsinki, Unioninkatu 38
23.2.2015 klo 16:00 – klo 18:00

You are very welcome to come to a guest lecture on Monday 23.2., 16-18, as part
of the University of Helsinki Chair of Archaeology Speaker series:

Amateur metal detecting in Flanders (Belgium): past and current approaches”

Pieterjan Deckers

Post-doctoral researcher, Department of Art and Archaeology, Brussels Free
University (Belgium)

In the past decade, archaeological attitudes and governmental policy towards
amateur metal detecting in Flanders have developed from prohibition and
deontological condemnation, over tolerance, to new legislation allowing the
practice. This paper tracks and contextualizes these changes. Next, the
rationale, objectives and ongoing development of MEDEA are discussed: a platform
to systematically record metal- detected finds in Flanders and to increase the
interaction between the detecting community and academic researchers.

Monday 23.2, Unioninkatu 38 F, room F115 (Arla pro), 16-18
