The Scandinavian Department at the University of California, Berkeley, invites
applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in Old
Norse studies or Finnish literary and cultural studies, broadly construed, with
an employment start-date of July 1, 2014. Salary dependent on experience.

The department is especially interested in research that places literary and
other cultural expressions in their broader social and historical contexts. As
the members of the Scandinavian Department all work across disciplines, we
require that candidates for this position also exhibit expertise in a secondary
field. Examples of highly desirable secondary fields could include:
Folklore/Cultural Studies, History of Ideas, Medieval Studies, Early Modern
Studies, Comparative Literature, or Art History. Fluency in a modern mainland
Scandinavian language (Danish, Norwegian, or Swedish) is required.
