[Gross] High CPU load on small system.

Hmm, that sounds really weird. What OS are you running on? If you have 
truss or ktrace or something similar you could see if grossd is doing 
any system calls. Do you have dnsbl configured? If you do, does the 
behaviour change if you compile gross with --disable-dnsbl?
