10 AIAS-AUFF Fellowships open for application
In the third round of the AIAS-AUFF Fellowships, AIAS is pleased to offer up to ten fellowships available for application from early to mid career researchers with a two to ten years experience after completion of their PhD. The fellowships are open for application for researchers from across the globe from all academic fields. Fellowships last for 23 months, starting on 1 September 2026.

"Collaborative Initiatives in Affective Neuroscience" - a workshop

"Tukdam: Between Worlds" - screening of award-winning film and panel debate

In what Tibetans call Tukdam, advanced meditators die in meditation. Their bodies do not show the usual signs of death for days, or even weeks. According to Tibetan Buddhist tradition, consciousness is still present.
Join the screening of the award-winning film "Tukdam: Between Worlds” by director and anthropologist Donagh Coleman, followed by a panel debate with the film director director Donagh Coleman and AIAS Director Andreas Roepstorff and anthropologists Hanne Bess Boelsbjerg and Martijn van Beek.

"Animal Welfare and Breeding" - a cross-disciplinary workshop

Topical journal collection and network on Automated labour
A topical collection of journal articles on the topic 'Automated labour' is just published in the scientific journal Digital Society. The articles are an outcome of the AIAS 2023 interdisciplinary conference Cyborg Workers: The Past, Present and Future of Automated Labour co-organised by fellows Magdalena Małecka and Philipp Reick.
The cross-disciplinary initiatives by Malecka and Reick have led to long-lasting collaborations and network across disciplines as displayed in a follow-up, second conference, Cyborg Worker 2.0: the Social and Environmental Costs of Big Tech, held at ETUI, the European Trade Union Institute in Brussels in February 2025 and a third, a Cyborg Workers 3.0, is expected to be held in Oslo in 2026.

NetIAS CAT Project on Singlehood visits AIAS in September
The Constructive Advanced Thinking (CAT) Project on ‘Singlehood: Trends, Needs, and Social Policy’ will be hosted at AIAS from 11 to 18 September. The Singlehood CAT project has received support from five Institutes of Advanced Study to work across disciplines and institutions to study the consequences of the global rise in individuals opting for singlehood.
Researchers interested in the research topic of singlehood are welcome to reach out to the CAT group while they are at AIAS.
On 12 September 2025 at 9:00, the group will present their project in a short 5-10-minute AIAS Breakfast Talk which is open to all interested.
