Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce an opportunity within the Institute of Ancient History at the University of Basel/ Switzerland. The Institute Ancient History is part of the Departement of Ancient Civilizations, encompassing archaeological, philological, and historical disciplines, and is now seeking to fill the position of Assistant in Ancient History (PhD student) starting from February 1, 2025, or as per mutual agreement.

The successful candidate will be engaged for an initial one-year term, with the possibility of extending for an additional three years. The role involves working on a dissertation project, participating in teaching (2 semester hours per week), engaging in academic self-administration, and assisting in the supervision of students within Ancient History.

Applicants are required to hold a Master’s degree in Ancient History or a related field and should be actively working on their dissertation project. While a research focus aligning with the chair's main areas is preferred, it is not a strict requirement. Proficiency in German is not required initially; however, the candidate should be willing to learn German.

We offer an annual salary amounting to approx. 51,000 CHF (52.500,- EUR) plus employer's pension and social insurance contributions.
