Dear colleagues -

You are cordially invited (with apologies for cross posting!) to the next lecture in the Center of Excellence in "Changes in Sacred Texts and Traditions" (CSTT) Lecture Series, to be held next Thursday, 26 Jan., from 16:15-18 in the Faculty Room of the Faculty of Theology (5th floor of Vuorikatu 3):

"Masculinities in the Neo-Assyrian Empire: Changes in the Configurations of Being a Man"
Omar N'Shea, University of Malta

This talk will focus firstly on the different configurations of masculinity during the Neo-Assyrian Empire (northern Iraq, 911-612 BCE) paying special attention not only to hegemonic constructions but also to less elite forms of manhood, and then attempt to analyse the way gender not only reflected/bolstered courtly life but also played a performative role in the shaping the expansionist ideology of Assyrian kingship.

----------------
The purpose of the CSTT lecture series is to provide a forum for individual members and guests of the CSTT to communicate their research to one another, as well as to the larger community of ancient scholars at the University of Helsinki.
