[Antiquitas] Coming up soon "The Synagogue in Ancient Palestine" conference (Helsinki, 21-24 Sept)

Dear colleagues,

In less than three weeks, the international conference “The Synagogue in Ancient Palestine: Current Issues and Emerging Trends” will take place here in Helsinki (Wed 21— Sat 24 Sept. 2016). Presentations will be given by our keynote speakers Prof. Jodi Magness (UNC-Chapel Hill), Prof. Zeev Weiss (Hebrew University, Jerusalem),  Prof. Jürgen Zangenberg (Leiden University), and Dr. Karen Stern (CUNY Brooklyn College) as well as by many other speakers from Finland, Norway, Russia, the Netherlands, United States, Canada, Israel and Slovakia. We are thrilled to have such a great group of scholars coming to Helsinki!

On Wednesday 21 September, we'll start off with a public lecture (18:00h at Porthania, Sali II) organised by the Finnish Institute in the Middle East, by Prof. Jodi Magness, “Samson in Stone: New Discoveries in the Ancient Village and Synagogue at Huqoq in Israel’s Galilee”. The public lecture is followed by a reception for conference participants. More information, see https://www.facebook.com/events/1100037996710499/. The conference itself will take place from Thursday 22 to Saturday 24 September in the Main Building of the University of Helsinki (Sali 10).
