The University of Freiburg is offering in connection with its
Interdisciplinary Research Group (Sonderforschungsbereich/SFB)





„Heroes – Heroisation – Heroisms: Transformations and Conjunctures from
Antiquity to Modernity”





1 PhD position in Ancient History





The position is one of two projects entitled „Transformations of heroism and
the development of ruler cult within the intercultural context of the
Hellenistic World“, supervised by Prof. Sitta von Reden. The candidate will
participate in a structured PhD programme attached to the Research Group and
leading to a PhD degree of the University of Freiburg. Given the strong
interdisciplinary profile of the Research Group, candidates will have the
opportunity, and are expected, to engage in cross-cultural and
trans-historical perspectives of their topics.



Candidates should show outstanding research potential and have completed a
BA and MA, or equivalent degrees, in Classics, Ancient History, Archaeology,
or related subjects. The working language of the Research Group and the
Graduate School is German. Applicants with no previous knowledge of German
will be expected to develop proficiency in German within the first year of
their study. The thesis can be submitted in English, French or German.



Preferred start is 1 July 2012, but a later start will be possible depending
on individual arrangement. Candidates are asked to seek further information
