22nd Theoretical Roman Archaeology Conference (TRAC)

29 March - 1 April 2012
Frankfurt am Main, Germany
Goethe-University, Campus Westend

The 22nd Theoretical Roman Archaeology Conference is to be held in  
Frankfurt am Main, Germany, from Thursday 29 March to Sunday 1 April.  
Proposals are now invited for individual papers and posters.

Proposals for papers of no longer than 300 words can be submitted for  
one of eight thematic sessions listed below, or for one of two general  
sessions. The session intended for the paper must be clearly indicated  
in the proposal. If a thematic session is oversubscribed, submitted  
papers will also be considered for the general sessions. The deadline  
for paper submissions is 31 October 2011.

Those wishing to present a poster should submit an abstract of no  
longer than 250 words on the proposed topic, content and aims. The  
deadline for submission is 30 November 2011.

All submission will go through a peer review process.



The confirmed sessions for TRAC 2012 are:

1) Roman copies and Greek originals: theories, methods, perspectives

2) Roman archaeology on the margins: working in a provincial context

Chair: Peter Norris & Colin Wallace  (University of Liverpool)

3) Religion in Roman Italy: Continuity and change, continuity in change

Chair: Annalisa Calapà (LMU München)

4) The Romanisation of the Roman world: new theoretical, practical and  
methodological approaches to an old paradigm

Chair: Michael Sommer (University of Liverpool) & Hartmut Leppin  
(Goethe-Universität Frankfurt)

5) ...living next door to Annius - Roman neighbourhood relations in  
urban contexts

Chair: Anna Kieburg & Renate Storli (Universität Hamburg)

6) Embodying value? The transformation of objects in and from the Roman world

Chair: Clare Rowan (Goethe-Universität Frankfurt)

7) Philhellenism and the Romans

Chair: Kelly Olson (University of Western Ontario)

8) Conceptualising frontier markets - the free market, imperial  
supply, and expression of local identity

Chair: Meike Weber (University of Reading) & Tyler Franconi  
(University of Oxford)
