Roman Family VI
Limits and Borders of Childhood and Family
17-19 May 2012
Villa Lante al Gianicolo, Institutum Romanum Finlandiae, Rome
Call For Posters
Deadline 31.1.2011
This conference sets out to continue the tradition of the previous
Roman Family Conferences, held in Canberra, Hamilton and Fribourg in
the period 1981-2007, all of which have resulted in books that have
become key volumes to our understanding of the family in Roman times.
Moreover, subject and theme of this sixth conference directly follow
the path of Roman Family V, which elaborated upon 'limits' of
families. In this conference, 'limits and borders' will be understood
in three different ways: the borders of the Roman Empire which have so
far not been in the centre of the discussion; the limits of human
life, by which we mean dangerous or 'darker' sides of childhood and
family; and the borderline between childhood/youth and the adult
world. Moreover, we will also touch upon chronological borders, by
focusing on Late Antiquity, a period which has been intensively
studied in the last years and has become a new and flourishing branch
of family studies.
This gives to Scholars and PhD students an occasion to be in contact
with the best specialists of the topic in the world by participating
and/or presenting their posters.
Conference fee 50-150 euros.
