Hallituksen ensimmäinen kokous ensi viikon tiistaina 28.8. klo 17. Paikkana Bremerin sisäpihan terassi (Uudenmaankatu 1, Teinin sisäänkäynnin vierestä sisään, sateella sisällä Bremerissä). Tervetuloa paikalle myös uudet YK-yhdistyksen toiminnasta kiinnostuneet.

WFUNA Youth Update
Dear friends

WFUNA-youth, funded by the United Nations Association of the United  
Kingdom (UNA-UK) and with the support of the Oxford Model United  
Nations, invites you to apply for participation in the second  
WFUNA-Youth Capacity Building workshop on project management.

If selected, you will meet together with other UNYA/UNYSA members from  
across the world in the beautiful university town of Oxford from the  
31st October to 1st November. Once there, you will firstly take part  
in the two-day WFUNA-Youth project management workshop. Following  
this, you will then have the option to participate at the Oxford  
International Model United Nations conference (OxIMUN).

In order to apply you must design an UN-related project which you will  
carry out in your home country within 3 months after your return from  
Oxford. Successful project plans will show careful attention to detail  
and highlight all of the major steps and issues that will need to be  
considered when planning and carrying out the project. It should be  
noted that the person who hands in the project proposal must be the  
same person who will actually be responsible for carrying out the  
project – successful applications are non-transferable. However, you  
do not need to organise the entire project by yourself. Indeed, you  
should aim to carry it out with other members of your UNYA/UNYSA.  
Furthermore, as part of your project you should aim to reach out to  
other young people.

You do not have to design an entirely new project and it must be  
realistic and within your means to carry it out. It is suggested that  
you even follow one of the projects described on our website:  
www.wfuna-youth.org (see the project section/handbook). In particular  
we would encourage projects that had a focus on the Millennium  
Development Goals, although this is not a pre-requisite for a  
successful application. Please note, however, that it will not be  
enough to simply join an already existing project!

If your project proposal does get accepted, the participation in the  
seminar is free. In addition, your accommodation costs, as well as  
light refreshments and lunch for the two days of the workshop will be  
covered. For two participants, travel costs up to the sum of £300 each  
will be covered by UNA-UK. Particular consideration will be given here  
to applicants from developing countries.

Ulkoministeriön avoin kansalaistapahtuma
Milloin 30.08.2007

Ulkoministeriö järjestää avoimen kansalaistapahtuman Merikasarmin pihalle pystytettävässä teltassa. Tilaisuus järjestetään ministeriön edustustonpäällikkökokouksen yhteydessä, jolloin Suomen suurlähettiläät ja pääkonsulit eri puolilta maailmaa saapuvat Helsinkiin. Kansalaisilla on näin mahdollisuus tavata heitä henkilökohtaisesti.

Myös ministeriön kaikki osastot esittelevät toimintaansa ja päähankkeitaan omilla näyttelypöydillään. Kiinnostuneilla on mahdollisuus perehtyä muun muassa EU:n yhteiseen ulko- ja turvallisuuspolitiikkaan, kansainvälisten järjestöjen työhön, kriisinhallintaan ja ihmisoikeuspolitiikkaan, kauppapolitiikkaan ja viennin ja kansainvälistymisen edistämiseen, kansainväliseen ilmasto- ja ympäristöpolitiikkaan, kehitysyhteistyöhön ja kansainväliseen oikeuteen sekä Suomen julkisuusdiplomatiaan ja kahdenvälisiin suhteisiin eri maiden kanssa.

Ministeriö esittelee myös konsuli- ja matkustusturvallisuuspalvelujaan sekä protokollatietoutta, ja esiintymislavalla pidetään suurlähettiläiden ja ministeriön johdon keskustelutuokioita ja kyselytunteja.

HRBA KEHITYSYHTEISTYÖSSÄ - MUUTOS TARVELÄHTÖISYYDESTÄ OIKEUSPERUSTAISUUTEEN 27.-28.9.2007 

Kansalaisjärjestöjen ihmisoikeussäätiö KIOS järjestää seminaarin ja workshopin ihmisoikeusperustaisesta lähestymistavasta (Human Rights Based Approach HRBA) kehitysyhteistyössä. 

Seminaaripäivänä 27.9.2007 tarkastellaan ihmisoikeusperustaisen lähestymis-tavan eroja ja yhtäläisyyksiä tarvelähtöiseen kehitysyhteistyöhön verrattuna, sekä kuullaan esimerkkejä ihmisoikeusperustaisuudesta käytännön työssä. 

 Workshopissa 28.9.2007 syvennytään ihmisoikeusperustaiseen lähestymistapaan esimerkkien avulla, sekä tutustutaan ihmisoikeusperustaisten hankkeiden suunnittelussa ja toteuttamisessa käytettäviin työkaluihin.

 Tilaisuudet on tarkoitettu kehitysyhteistyön parissa toimiville järjestöjen edustajille, opiskelijoille, tutkijoille ja virkamiehille.

To all UNAs and UNA Youth sections

Dear Friends,

This year the STAND UP Against Poverty Campaign will be taking place from 
16-17 October 2007. The STAND UP campaign was launched by the Millennium 
Campaign in 2006. It calls on all members of society to physically and 
symbolically "STAND UP," conveying their desire to fight poverty and hold 
their governments and leaders accountable to the promises that were made 
at the 2000 Millennium Summit in support of the Millennium Development 
Goals.

The purpose of this action is to raise awareness of the MDGs and to 
publicly demonstrate to policy makers the growing global support for the 
achievement of the Goals.

Last year, 23 million people Stood Up and Spoke Out in support of the 
Campaign- it was the largest single coordinated mobilization in the 
history of the Guinness World Records. This year, with the help of WFUNA, 
the STAND UP Campaign intends to double the number of campaigners from 23 
million to 46 million.

There are hundreds of ways to participate in the STAND UP campaign - from 
standing up at your office or school on the day, to organizing public 
concerts, rallies and other events. There is an option for every budget. 
We are now working on compiling a list of ideas and materials that UNAs 
and UNYAs could use to organize their own STAND UP event, and help reach 
the goal of doubling the number of people standing up against poverty.

Several of your UNAs are already planning STAND UP events, and many have 
participated in the campaign last year. We are creating a database of UNA 
STAND UP activities to track how many supporters UNAs are contributing to 
the campaign, and to be able to share STAND UP day ideas within our 
networks. We would like to ask you to, in a few sentences, write to us 
about what your UNA is planning to do on 16-17 October this year. We will 
inform all other UNAs about each event, publicize them on our website, and 
share information about the events with the Millennium Campaign.

UP!
