Transmission and molecular genetics or Genetics and genomics

Learning goals:
-       Understand the concept of hereditance
-       Analyse, describe and predict inheritance patterns, calculate risks of inheritance of alleles
-       Perform pedigree analysis
-       Compare and analyse gene sequences
-       Reflect on how the genome is used in the cells
-       Describe different types of mutations affecting the genome
-       Understand how gene expression is regulate
-       Theoretically master techniques of gene editing and regulation of gene expression

Model organisms in biological research
5 credits, course codes: ÅAU CB00BX44, UTU ÅA_2835

Learning goals:
- Describe how genetic manipulation of organisms can be performed and what it is used for
- Determine the types of research that benefit from the use of model organisms
- Determine the types of model organisms that are suitable to answer specific research questions
- Get familiar with handling of D. melanogaster (fruit fly), C. elegans (nematode) and D. rerio (zebrafish)
- Design simple experiments with model organisms
