MSc Student is needed to reveal novel regulators of thyroid physiology and genetics in the Thyroid Research group at the Institute of Biomedicine !

MSc project is available at the Research Centre for Integrative Physiology and Pharmacology, In Docent Jukka Kero´s Thyroid group at the Institute of Biomedicine, University of Turku. The Department is well equipped with facilities for modern molecular and cell biology research and is affiliated with the Turku Center for Disease Modeling.

The group focuses on molecular mechanisms of thyroid disorders. We are studying thyroid genetics in patients with congenital or hereditary thyroid diseases using in silico or in vitro methods and also genetically modified disease models. We try to understand the role of these identified novel genes and mutations in hypo- or hyperperthyroidism or in thyroid cancer.

The research project focuses on evaluating novel gene mutations and testing their pathogenicity in vitro using various molecular biology techniques and assays. The researcher will work closely with technicians and PhD-students in the group.

Required skills:

* Good English communication skills and good ability to work independently in a team

* Basic knowledge in genetics, cell culture methods and experience in e.g Western blot, RT-PCR, immunohistochemistry or animal models would be an advantage for the applicant

We offer:

* International and multidisciplinary working environment.

* Possibility to learn new in vitro methods, or generation of in vivo models

* Possibility to carry on research after successful master project as a PhD -student or as a project researcher or to get a summer job with grant

How to apply?

Please send an informal application, CV and a copy of your study register to Jukka.Kero at utu.fi<mailto:Jukka.Kero at utu.fi>
