Turun yliopiston virusopilla on tarjolla mielenkiintoinen tutkimusprojekti innokkaalle opinnäytetyön tekijälle. Projektissa selvitetään, miksi herpesvirukset tehostavat eksosomien eli solun ulkopuolelle vapautuvien pienten rakkuloiden erittymistä – auttavatko eksosomit virusta leviämään solusta toiseen vai toimivatko ne solun puolustusmekanismina hyökkääviä viruksia vastaan.

Työssä pääset tekemään mm. virus- ja eksosomipuhdistusta, erilaisia infektiokokeita, proteiinimäärityksiä, mRNA-eristystä, qPCR:ää sekä sytokiinimittauksia.

Tutkimus kuuluu Suomen Akatemian rahoittamaan herpesvirus-geenihoitohankkeeseen (PI: Veijo Hukkanen) ja PIBID-tutkimusohjelmaan. Jos kiinnostuit ja haluat kuulla projektista lisää, ota minuun yhteyttä joko sähköpostitse tai puhelimitse ja sovi tapaamisaika, niin kerron mielelläni lisää.

The department of Virology, Univ. of Turku offers an interesting master thesis work position to study the role of exosomes in herpes simplex virus type 1 infection. We are interested in knowing whether exosomes help the virus to spread from cell to cell or are they part of the cellular defence mechanisms to protect the neighbour cells from the virus attack.

The study includes virus and exosome purification, infection assays, protein determination, mRNA extraction, qPCR and cytokine measurements.

The study belongs to the Herpesvirus gene therapy project (PI: Veijo Hukkanen) funded by the Academy of Finland and to the PIBID-research program. If you are interested and want to hear more about the project, do not hesitate to contact me.
