Hello Everyone,

As one option for the Master's studies after the Bachelor's Degree we
would like to introduce the International Bioinformatics Master's Degree
Programme at the University of Turku (http://bioinformatics.fi and
http://bioinformatics.utu.fi/):

Welcome to taste some GLÖGI and COOKIES and hear about the International
Bioinformatics Master’s Degree Programme at the University of Turku on
Thursday, the 13th of December, at 1 PM, in the lecture hall Beta in the
ICT Building (Joukahaisenkatu 3-5 B), University of Turku!

*Programme Description*

Bioinformatics applies methods of computer science, artificial
intelligence, mathematics, and statistics to biological data, such as
genome DNA sequences, or protein structures. Bioinformaticians usually
work as experts within biomedical or pharmaceutical R&D. The programme
is multidisciplinary in nature, and jointly managed by the Departments
of Information Technology, University of Turku and the Institute of
Medical Technology, University of Tampere. Courses are jointly managed
by the University of Tampere and University of Turku, and they take
advantage of modern educational technology. Students do not need to
shuttle between two universities. Education is given in English, and the
students learn to work together with associates from different countries
and scientific backgrounds.

*Curriculum*

The studies encompass many aspects of bioinformatics and consist of
lectures, seminars and web courses. 120 credits is the required minimum
for the degree and can be completed in two years.

*Prerequisities*

The students must hold a degree equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from a
Finnish university (180 ECTS) or /ammattikorkeakoulu/ degree from an
/amk/ institution in Finland, which can be considered to be sufficient
for Master’s degree studies when combined with additional studies. The
degree should be in an affiliated field such as Information Technology,
Genetics, Biochemistry, Statistics, Mathematics or Pharmacy. In addition
to the suitability of the degree, the student’s performance in his/her
previous studies and the motivation letter are evaluated.

*Application Period*

  From 1 January 2008 to 31 January 2008

* Interested? More information on the web-pages of the programme
