Maantieteen päivät 2017 - Welcome to Finland? lähestyy ja odotamme innolla näkevämme teitä Turussa 26. - 27.10.! Päivien teeman hengessä meillä on tänä vuonna mielenkiintoinen kattaus keynote-esiintyjiä muun muassa tuomassa meille sekä poliittisen maantieteen että terrorismitutkijan näkökulmia maahanmuuttoon ja pakolaistilanteeseen Euroopassa sekä Arktisen alueen tutkijan näkemyksiä ihmisen ja luonnon vuorovaikutuksesta täällä pohjolassa. Kahden päivän aikana Päivillä on yhteensä 14 työryhmää joissa lähes 80 esitystä. Perjantaina luvassa on paneelikeskustelu maantieteen julkaisutoiminnan muuttuvasta kentästä.

Maantieteen päivien konferenssi-illallinen järjestetään Turun keskustassa Panimoravintola Koulussa (Eerikinkatu 18) torstaina 26.10.2017 klo 19 alkaen. Opiskelijoille, jotka eivät osallistu varsinaiselle illalliselle, on varattu ravintola Koulun historia-kabinetti klo 20.30 eteenpäin. Tarjolla on pientä purtavaa, tervetuloa!



Illallisen jälkeiset jatkot alkavat klo 22 Baaribaarissa (Aurakatu 14), paikassa joka soveltuu niin rauhalliseen istuskeluun kuin villimpäänkin tanssahteluun. Jatkoilla esiintyy Turun yliopiston maantieteen osaston oma bändi IceFinger. Vaikka et osallistuisi illalliselle, tule ihmeessä mukaan Baaribaariin nauttimaan hyvästä seurasta ja musiikista!

the Annual Meeting of Finnish Geographers - Welcome to Finland? is soon approaching and we are excited to host you here in Turku on 26. - 27. October! This year we have an interesting mix of keynote speakers providing us with insights into migration and refugee situation in Europe from the perspectives of political geography and terrorism studies as well as insights into human-nature interactions here in the north by an Arctic researcher. During the two days we have a total of 14 sessions with almost 80 presentations covering a range of topics. On Friday a panel discussion concerning the changing field of scientific publishing in geography will be held.

The Conference Dinner will take place in in the city center at a local brewery restaurant Koulu (Eerikinkatu 18) on Thursday the 26. October beginning at 7 pm. The dinner is mostly vegetarian and you can have a look at the whole menu here<https://maantieteenpaivat2017.wordpress.com/konferenssi-illallinen/>. For those students who are not participating the dinner, we have reserved restaurant Koulu's history cabinet starting at 8.30 pm. Join us there for some snacks!
After the dinner, at around 10-11 pm, the evening will continue in cozy Baaribaari (Aurakatu 14), which is suitable for either having a calm drink at a table or wild dancing. The University of Turku Geography section's own band IceFinger will be there to get the party started. Even if you are not joining the dinner, you are most welcome to join us at Baaribaari for a night of good company and music!
Remember also the Workshop and Networking Day for PhD Students and the photo contest which are organized during the Annual Meeting.
