Welcome to the third symposium of the Association for Literary Urban Studies (former HLCN), with as theme “Urban Space in Postmodern Literature”
The symposium will be held at the University of Helsinki, Friday 19 May 2017. Time and place: 10h-15h; place: Metsätalo, Sali 9.
“Urban Space in Postmodern Literature” offers a meeting where researchers can present ongoing work related to city literature, as well as a theory reading. Anyone interested in urban literary studies is most welcome to join the symposium. Please do sign up if you intend to participate (by mail to lieven.ameel at uta.fi) before 18.5.2017.

Hannu Poutiainen (Postdoctoral Fellow, University of Tampere): “Contretemps on Witchery Street: Jacques Yonnet's Supernatural Paris”
Jason Finch (English literature, Åbo Akademi): “Dissident Cities: Planning and Orality as Responses to Change in Post-Imperial Liverpool and Bradford, 1930-90”
11.45-12.45: Discussion and theory reading – concepts in literary urban studies
The discussion and theory reading will centre on the concept of (new) materialities in the context of modern urban theory and the study of literature (see below).
12.45-13.45: lunch break
14.00-15.00: literary urban studies editorial meeting
