Tampere University of Technology and University of Tampere welcome you to Re-City 2017, the 2nd International City Regeneration Congress, under the theme “(Im)Possible Cities”. The congress will be arranged in Tampere, Finland, on 24 – 25 August 2017. It provides an interdisciplinary forum for researchers, students and practitioners in the fields of urban planning, architecture, traffic planning and logistics, ecology, urban history, informatics, health sciences, economics and business, political sciences, social sciences and humanities.

Our distinguished keynote speakers are Dr. Hon. FRIBA Lucy Bullivant from United Kingdom and professor David Pinder from Roskilde University, Denmark. We also have three splendid Finnish lecturers, professors Laura Kolbe, Marketta Kyttä and Panu Lehtovuori.

Re-City 2017 Congress is organized as a back-to-back conference with ALUS Conference (link<http://www.uta.fi/ltl/en/impossiblecities2017/index.html>) having the same theme (Im)Possible Cities. If you intend to participate in both events, please register in them separately (one day in one and two days in another).

The topic “(Im)Possible Cities” allows for a wide range of approaches concerning city regeneration and the challenges implied in the visioning, planning and construction of cities. The congress seeks especially for good and bad examples of real city regeneration cases. However, more theoretical and imaginary approaches are also welcomed. The congress has five tracks:

Black Track

Black track calls for abstracts dealing with impossible and possible examples of dystopic and anarchic features, warfare related issues, urban conflicts and destructive behavior, as well as pollution and contaminant issues in city regeneration.

Blue Track

Blue track calls for abstracts dealing with impossible and possible examples of water management and other water related issues like urban waterfronts, water energy, water traffic and floating buildings in city regeneration. In addition, the cultural and philosophical approaches concerning the role of water and sky in city regeneration are welcomed.

Brown Track

Brown track calls for abstracts dealing with impossible and possible examples of industrial buildings, brownfields, architectural decay and patina, urban fallows, railway stations and airports, as well as temporary uses in city regeneration.

Green Track

Green track calls for abstracts dealing with impossible and possible examples of green spaces like parks, urban meadows and landscapes, as well as health issues and ecological aspects in city regeneration.

Rainbow Track

Rainbow track calls for abstracts dealing with all other kinds of impossible and possible examples of city regeneration, for instance gender, urban minority or mixed use issues.

Please send your abstracts (length no more than 300 words) to info at recity2017.com<mailto:info at recity2017.com> . We kindly ask you to tell in your abstract if you are aiming for a full paper (10-15 pages) + presentation at the congress or just for a presentation at the congress. The deadline for the call for abstracts is 15 April 2017. By 15 May 2017, about 60 abstracts will be selected for presentation at the congress. The deadline for full papers is 11 August 2017, and comments by two referees will be sent to the authors before the congress. The language of the abstracts is English. After the congress 10 to 15 selected papers will be published in printed and electronic form in TUT journal DATUTOP (rated as a scientific journal level JUFO 1). You can find Re-City 2015 selected papers from here: http://URN.fi/URN:ISBN:978-952-15-3625-0<http://urn.fi/URN:ISBN:978-952-15-3625-0> .
