database management systems (DBMS) have become an
essential component of everyday life in modern society.
The knowledge of DBMS is mandatory for every information
systems graduate because practically every software or a
system application today is developed in DBMS
environment. Course presents a comprehensive overview of
Database Management systems. This course shall cover
fundamentals of data base management technology and
practice of database and data management systems design,
implementation, and application. This course is purely
applied course. Students will understand how to be a
consultant to prepare a proposal for database
application development. Students would get an
opportunity to design the database for their own
proposal. Once the database design is ready, discussion
would be on how to handle database administration and
database tuning and performance issues. In next stage,
students would be given inputs for understanding how to
migrate to ERP, data warehouse and finally business
intelligence. A Group project (comprising 3 or 4
students) will be run throughout the semester for an
application design and development. This course will
supplement the knowledge and skills of database
knowledge that students may have from earlier database
courses at <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:placetype
