Interesting opportunity for those interested working with IBM.



Candidate Profile (see the attachment for full details).

Candidates are current BS or MS/MEng students or recent graduates in Computer

Science, Electrical Engineering or a related field. PhDs and PostDocs are also invited to

apply.



Candidates can show a background in software engineering and in areas such as:



•  Basic software engineering tools/methods, e.g. Agile, GIT, ECLIPSE, IDEs

•  Systems programming in OO languages, e.g. Java, C++, Python, Javascript

•  Experience using frameworks, e.g. node.js, JQuery, Google App Engine, React.js, Django

•  Good OS foundation in Linux, Unix, and/or Windows Server

•  Understanding of software-defined infrastructure concepts, such as:

◦  Software-defined networking (SDN)

◦  Software-defined storage (SDS)

◦  Automated provisioning, cloud orchestration and management/DevOps

•  Awareness/use of infrastructure management tools, e.g. Jenkins, Puppet, Chef

•  Understanding of distributed systems: client-server, web services, networking, protocols, configuration

•  Understanding of virtualization: hypervisors, private and public cloud, e.g. IBM Bluemix, VmWare, OpenStack, AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, etc.

•  Ability to use / program SQL databases. NoSQL, graph DBs, etc. would be a plus

•  Awareness of Machine Learning and how to apply it

Gentlemen:

I sent you a previous version of this IBM Research call for ECT applicants for a number of 1-year placements at the IBM Research lab in Silicon Valley. Here’s an updated/simplified version.

As you know, we pay all expenses, provide housing, and pay a salary. But it’s the JOB CONTENT that makes these stand out, along with working at IBM Research, which is probably the most prestigious industry research lab in Silicon Valley.

Please let me know if there are others I should be dealing with to enable your students and graduates to become aware of these opportunities.
