Subject: Two Research Assistant positions (part-time) in Information Systems Science, Work Informatics

TURKU SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS
Two Research Assistant positions (part-time) in Information Systems Science, Work Informatics
We welcome applications for the positions of two research assistant (fixed term from 1 February 2013 until 31 October 2013) in information systems science, Work Informatics.

Background

Work Informatics delivers the third research project to TeliaSonera during 2013. The first two dealt with mobile technology and mobile work (see the list of publications below).

Now the research question and focus has shifted to knowledge workers’ ecosystem. Mobile technology and its applications are taken as an inherent part of the studied holistic work system of individual actors. The following questions arise: What is state-of-the art comprehension of knowledge work? What is it about? How is it measured/evaluated, i.e. is it done efficiency, effectively, and from whose perspective? Who are the beneficiaries and who are the victims of current emergent themes (e.g. information overflow, personal habits, virtual collaboration, process management, team leaders, social media).

The project group consists of two research assistants who work together with the responsible project manager. A steering group of senior researchers supports the project group.

Open positions

We are looking for fearless Master Students in Work Informatics or in Information Systems to participate to delivering this challenging and novel, yet very concrete project outcome. This means that the motivation to join us to make the difference with our study is highly appreciated. The set of skills is good understanding of work informatics, information systems, modern ICT, and organizations. Possible work experience in the ICT field and/or other knowledge of ICT usage are considered useful. The project also includes empirical part in a Finnish organization, which means that project group must have fluent skill of Finnish language.

Research assistant position includes the possibility to include one’s Master Thesis and Master Project within the project. Also, the Master Thesis can be written by the work pair. We want to hire two part-time research assistants (rather part-time), but also other arrangements are negotiable. The positions are planned to take place between February 2013–October 2013.
The job-related salary element of undergraduate students falling under the system for teaching and research staff and within the scope of the General Collective Agreement of Universities, who have not completed the necessary higher university degree, shall be not less than 75 per cent of the salary for the job requirement in question (1767,97 €/month to which the component based on personal performance adds a maximum of 46,3%).

How to apply?

Send your informal application to antti.tuomisto at utu.fi by latest 15.1.2013. Application can be written in English or in Finnish.
