Näin peruuntuvien tapahtumien keskellä on vielä muutama päivä aikaa hakea Social Science History Associationin vuoden 2020 konferenssiin, joka tullaan järjestämään Washington D:C:ssä marraskuussa juuri seuraavien USA:n presidentinvaalien jälkeen!

Konferenssin ohjelmassa on aina laajasti yhteiskuntahistoriaa ja historiallista yhteiskuntatiedettä suurella lähestymistapojen kirjolla, ja taso on antoisa. Tapahtumaa voisi luonnehtia eurooppalaisen ESSHC:n pohjoisamerikkalaiseksi vastinpariksi.

The 2020 Social Science History Association’s Annual Meeting will be organized in Washington, D.C., November 19-22, on Capitol Hill! Appropriately, the theme of the year is “Politics, Society, and the Economy: the Past and Today”. The submission deadline is March 13th. Papers and sessions should be submitted here: http://ssha2020.ssha.org/

The Economics Network is calling for proposals for sessions or individual papers, which can address, but are in no way limited to, the following topics:

Immigration

Influence of the rich on politics

The new “History of Capitalism” literature – view from historians and economists

Antitrust laws

Regional inequality, populism and politics

“OK boomer” – generations and political conflict

The environment, environmental politics and the economy

As well as papers for the following special sessions:

Histories of Official Statistics

We invite presentations for a potential session about the development of official statistics across countries and international institutions. Topics should focus on the history of the institutions not mainly findings from historical data. Interdisciplinary themes and counterfactuals are welcome. Creativity as well as diligence is welcome.
Abstracts are expected to be less than 500 words but can include links and references to extended works. Submissions from graduate students are welcome. If we get many submissions this could be a roundtable of short presentations.

Richard Sutch Retrospective

Economic history lost one of its greats last year. Richard Sutch contributed to the profession both in his groundbreaking publications such as One Kind of Freedom, and in the data resources that he collected (the Historical Labor Statistics Project, and the millennial edition of the Historical Statistics of the United States).
For this session, we seek papers that honor his memory. Papers might discuss the impact of his work, follow up on his work, or use the data resources that he collected.
