Digital History Research Method Workshop Tour in January 29th – February 9th, 2018 at the University of Oulu, Jyväskylä, Eastern Finland, Turku, Tampere and Helsinki.

Are you wondering how to use computer assisted text analysis to grasp changes in historical newspaper texts? Would you like to visualize the events that you are analyzing in a map? Are you suspicious about all the fuzz around digital research?

You are warmly welcome to come and get acquainted with digital research methods, and to discuss how to utilize them in history research!

We are organizing a workshop tour on digital research methods. During the workshop we will give a general overview of digital research methods, get hands on and try some easy-to-start digital research methods and programs, and network with other researchers interested in digital history research methods.

Jyväskylä – Wednesday January 31, 2018;

Eastern Finland (Joensuu) – Thursday-Friday February 1-2, 2018;

Turku – Monday-Tuesday February 5-6, 2018;

Tampere – Wednesday February 7, 2018;

Helsinki – Thursday-Friday, February 8-9, 2018

The event is part of a workshop tour that visits, organized by ”From Road Map to Roadshow: A collective demonstration & information project to strengthen Finnish digital history“ project. It is a Kone Foundation funded project, which aims at collecting best practices of facilitating digital history research in Finland, promote understanding on the opportunities and challenges of digital research methods among historians, and build networks among them. The Principal Investigator of the project is Professor of Industrialization Mats Fridlund from Aalto University. Other people working in the project are Jo Guldi, Johan Jarlbrink, and Mila Oiva and Petri Paju. The people in the projects steering group are Anu Lahtinen, Jessica Parland-von Essen, Hannu Salmi, Visa Immonen, Marko Tikka, Ilkka Mäkinen, and Mikko Tolonen.
