Launching seminar of the Centre for the Study of Christian Cultures

Turun yliopistoon on perustettu uusi monitieteinen tutkimuskeskus, Centre for
the Study of Christian Cultures (CSCC).Keskus kokoaa yhteen tutkimusta ja
tutkijoita, jotka keskittyvät kristinuskon tutkimukseen erilaisista, muun
muassa humanistisista ja yhteiskuntatieteellisistä, näkökulmista sekä
tarkastelevat kristinuskon ideologisia, poliittisia, kulttuurisia ja taiteeseen,
talouteen sekä arkeen liittyviä ulottuvuuksia niin historiassa kuin
nykyisyydessä. Keskuksen tavoitteena on tukea ja kehittää alan tutkimusta
Turun yliopistossa ja laajemmin Suomessa sekä edistää kansainvälistä
tutkimusyhteistyötä.  

Keskuksen verkostoitumiseen keskittyvä avajaisseminaari "Christian Cultures
Past and Present" järjestetään 19. toukokuuta Turussa Kirkkopäivien
yhteydessä (Logomo). Seminaarin pääpuhujina ovat David Thurfjell(Södertörn
Högskola, Tukholma) ja Jussi-Pekka Taavitsainen(Turun yliopisto).
Avajaisseminaariin kutsutaan osallistujia esittelemään lyhyesti omaa
kristillisyyteen liittyvää tutkimustaan tai tutkimusprojektiaan. Seminaarin

Call for project presentations 

The Centre for the Study of Christian Cultures (CSCC) is a new multidisciplinary
research centre focusing on the study of diverse forms of Christianity in
different parts of the world and their interlinkages to other aspects of human
life such as politics, ideologies, arts, culture and economy. The centre is
based at the School of History, Culture and Arts Studies at the University of
Turku, Finland. It aims to support and develop research on Christian cultures at
the University of Turku and in Finland at large, and foster international
research collaboration in its specific field. 

The half-day seminar “Christian Cultures Past and Present” is the launching
event of the research centre. The programme consists of keynote lectures and
projects and research presentations. We have the pleasure to have two
distinguished scholars as keynote speakers: professor Jussi-Pekka Taavitsainen
(University of Turku) and professor David Thurfjell (Södertörn Högskola,
Stockholm). The CSCC cordially invites researchers interested in the study of
Christian cultures to participate in the seminar and network with other
researchers in this field. 

We welcome proposals for project and research presentations and posters from
different disciplines related to the study of Christianity. Each participant is
given 5 to 10 minutes to present their project or research. Also presentations
of institutes, centres and networks related to the topic are welcome. The aim of
these short presentations is to create space for networking and collaboration.
The seminar’s working language will be English, but presentations can also be
given in Finnish or Swedish. Please email the title of your
presentation/postertogether with a short bio(including name, institutional
affiliation, position, and email address) to cscc at utu.fi by 4 May 2017. The
seminar is free of charge. For coffee, please also indicate possible diets in
your e-mail. 

Seminar guests also have the possibility to participate in the events of
Kirkkopäivät, which is held in Logomo on 19-20 May 2017. For more information

cost) is available before the seminar at Logomo Kitchen but owing to the
Kirkkopäivät it needs to be booked beforehand by 15 May at
www.logomokitchen.fi/tapahtumat (the number of lunches available is limited).
