in Joensuu, 22–24 October 2015. The main organisers are the Finnish Historical
Society, the Departments of History and Church History at the University of
Eastern Finland and the Finnish Doctoral Programme of History.
The programme consists of keynote lectures, workshop sessions and individual
paper presentations. The languages of the conference are Finnish, Swedish and
English.

America, Secular Europe”: Are they really so different? If so, since when and
why?
Prof. Jacalyn Duffin (Queen’s University, Canada): Medical Miracles: Doctors,
Saints and Healing in the Modern World.
The organising committee invites proposals for workshop sessions and paper
presentations. The 90 minute- workshop sessions consist of three presentations
and a discussion. Session proposals should include a main title, a short
description of the topic, the e-mail address and name of the chair of the
session, as well as the individual participants’ names and titles of their
presentations. In addition, individual paper presentation proposals are welcome
and should include a title and short description of the topic.
Keynote speakers have agreed to be commentators for workshop sessions in English
that address topics related to religion and medicine. If you would like to have
Profs. McLeod or Duffin act as a commentator in your session, please indicate
this. If there are many such requests, then the keynote speakers will select the
sessions in which they will participate.
