Reconstructing minds: the ethics of post-war memory and recollection
---------------------------------------------------------
Dear friends, partners and colleagues,

The University of Lapland (Rovaniemi, Finland) is pleased to announce that it
will host an international conference titled Reconstructing minds: the ethics
of post-war memory and recollection, to be held 25–27 August 2014.

The conference is being organized by the FEENIKS project (Art and culture in the
mental and material reconstruction process following the Lapland War), a
multidisciplinary programme funded by the Academy of Finland.

The keynote speakers at the conference will be Timothy Ashplant, Visiting Senior
Research Fellow (Centre for Life-Writing Research, King's College, London, UK),
and Veli-Pekka Lehtola, Professor of Sámi cultural studies (Giellagas
Institute, Oulu University, Finland).

This call for papers is directed at researchers and postgraduate students whose
research interests include the processes of reconstruction – mental as well as
material – that take place following wars and other collective disasters. The
conference welcomes papers dealing with the memory, remembering and
recollecting; forgetting, remaining silent and being silenced; or other topics
relating to material and mental reconstruction on the individual or communal
levels.

The conference presentations will form the basis for a publication which will be
edited and published by the FEENIKS project.

Abstracts (max. 2000 characters, including spaces) and a short CV should be
submitted by 31 March to feeniks[at]ulapland.fi.

Please forward this call for papers to any colleagues, researchers and
postgraduate students whom you feel may be interested.
