youth. We warmly invite all researchers who are interested in the
research on children, childhood, youth and their growing
environments.

The main objective of the conference is to discuss themes related to
social care vs. social control of children and young people. We
welcome abstracts for workshop presentations and for poster
presentations.

Suggested themes may include for example following themes:
- Children, youth and institutional social control
- Care vs. control continuum in the professional practices with
children and youth
- History of care vs. control of children
- The present practices of concern and early intervention
- Diagnosis – care or control?

An abstract should be no more than 300 words in length and should
address the following:
- Name(s) and affiliation(s) of the author(s)
- Contact details
- Title of the presentation
- Background of the proposed paper
- Outline of contents

And should indicate as well
- whether the abstract is for a paper or a poster presentation
- if you require any additional audiovisual equipment other than a
computer and data projector
- the language of your presentation: only in English, only in
Finnish, or both. (The last option means that you are flexible to
decide the
language according to the other presentations assigned to the same
workshop.)
- if you would like to receive comments on your presentation by one
of the foreign visitors of the conference: professor Nigel Parton,
University of Huddersfield or professor Thomas Gitz Johansen,
Roskilde University.

The accepted paper presentations will be arranged to thematic
workshops by the organizers. All who wish comments on their
presentation by one of the foreign visitors must send a research
abstract in English and also make their presentations in English. In
