CALL FOR PAPERS
Challenging Colonialism and Homogenizing Modernity:
Theory, Methodology and Literary Analysis
Symposium arranged by the Border Poetics Group, University of Tromsø,
in cooperation with the DINO network (Diversity in Nordic Literature)
University of Tromsø, 6−9 October 2010
The organizers welcome paper proposals (title and abstract of ca 200 words
+ ca five keywords) which explore transformations of the present-day
literary landscapes of the Nordic countries as they relate to ethnic and
linguistic diversity, changing notions of gender and sexuality, migration and
diaspora, as well as to histories of colonialism and homogenizing modernity.
We particularly welcome contributions which investigate theoretical
perspectives and methodologies which may be deployed in the analysis of
emerging Nordic literatures which challenge established notions of identity,
nationality and/or gender. Intersections of ethnicity/race, linguistic
pluralism, senses of place/belonging, border experiences, world
views/religions, regionalism, Europeanization and globalization are relevant
themes for exploration in workshops. We also welcome analyses of various
aspects of diversity in Nordic literatures.
The deadline for paper proposals is 1 June, 2010. Please mail
proposals with your name and institutional affiliation to:
