On behalf of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland, Unit of for Development Financing Institutions, The World Bank and the Trust Fund for Environmentally and Socially Sustainable Development, TFESSD The Thematic Trust Fund for Environmentally and Socially Sustainable Development (TFESSD) was set up in 1999 in agreement between the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the World Bank. Finland joined the trust fund in 2002. The overall objective of the fund is to act as a catalyst for the mainstreaming of environmental and social dimensions of sustainable development and for inclusion of these cross-cutting issues into the World Bank's operations, both at headquarters and in the field.

We have the pleasure of inviting you to attend the "Towards a New Vision for Sustainable Development" -seminar.

The seminar will be opened by the Under-secretary of State, Ms. Anne Sipiläinen, addressing Finland's vision for Rio +20. Further, the seminar discussions will be conducted in three sessions: the first on Global Environment with a presentation by Sari M Soderstrom, Manager, The World Bank Environment Department, the second on Global Poverty and Equity with a presentation by Christina Malmberg Calvo, Manager, Poverty Reduction and Equity, The World Bank and the third on World Bank's new Social Protection Strategy with a presentation by Arup Banerji, Director, Social Protection and Labor, The World Bank. Finally, the Former President of Finland and Co-chair of the UN Secretary General's High-level panel on Global Sustainability, Ms. Tarja Halonen, will give presentation on the topic "Choosing a Sustainable Future".
The aim of the seminar is to encourage and promote dialogue on sustainable development between The World Bank, Finnish and Norwegian donor agencies, research institutions, NGOs and other interested parties. In all sessions the audience will have an opportunity to participate in the debate. The language of the seminar is English. We look forward to an active discussion.
