What's in a word? The minority concept revisited

This is an announcement of an upcoming two-day conference and PhD-workshop organized by Thomas Brudholm, Kirsten Thisted and Birgitte S. Johansen, Minority Studies, Faculty of Humanities, University of Copenhagen, in cooperation with the Research School of Regional Studies, 7-8 April 2011.

A number of leading researchers have been invited to present their opinions on the problems and possibilities pertaining to the scholarly use of the minority concept.

Keynote speakers: 

Eric Heinze, Queen Mary, University of London: "The Construction of ‘Equality' and ‘Discrimination' in Modernity: Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice"

John F. Dovidio, Yale University: "Divergent Needs, Perspectives, and Realities of Minority and Minority Group Members: Impact on Intergroup Interaction and Outcomes"

Richard Jenkins, University of Sheffield: "Who is always right?"

Margaret Walker, Arizona State University: "Moral Vulnerability and Minority Status"

Dir. Riva Kastoryano, Centre for International Studies and Research, Paris 

Please register by 1 March and send abstracts by 10 March 2011

Participation fee: none. PhD students will be granted 3,8 ECTS for participation with paper and 2,3 ECTS without paper.
