Welcome to Queering Animal Studies ? Animaling Queer Studies

no 4, 2011, special issue on ?Animals?; a joint arrangement between
Queerseminariet at Uppsala university, lambda nordica, and the
HumAnimal Group at Uppsala university. The issue will be available to

Participants

Malin Ah-King, evolutionary biologist and gender researcher at Center
for Gender Research, Uppsala university, has written her article in
lambda nordica about the enormous variation in sex and sexuality among
animals. How has this diversity been explained by evolutionary theory,
in which heteronormativity is abundant? And how can we aim for a
non-normative evolutionary biology?

Ann-Sofie Lönngren, researcher at the department of Literature,
Uppsala university, has written her article about literary
transformations from human to animal in Monika Fagerholm?s short story
?Patricia Kanin (?Patricia Rabbit?), 1990. Employing posthumanist and
feminist material approaches, Lönngren discusses how the figuration of
transformation in ?Patricia Kanin? enlightens the heteronormative and
ethnifying social and political processes through which a human body
is denied or granted humanity.

Helena Pedersen, researcher at Malmö Högskola, holds a Ph.D. in
Education from Gothenburg University. She conducts research in the
intersection of critical education theory, critical animal studies,
and posthumanism, and has taught animal studies at Uppsala University,
Karolinska Institute, Valand School of Fine arts, and Gothenburg
University. In her contribution to lambda nordica, she introduces the
intersection between queer theory and animal studies.

Time: 20 december 2011. The seminar starts at 17.15 and ends 19, at
the latest. Then there is a postseminar funded by lambda nordica.
